• METHAMPHETAMINE, HUMAN ASH AND ACRYLIC

Douglas Throwell #9, 7 Years Old, 2013 Human ash, methamphetamine and acrylic on canvasĀ

The painter's father died early of a drug overdose. In a series of paintings Throwell mixed Chrystal Meth with his father's ashes and used these mixed to acrylic paint to create a series of portraits of his father's life stages.

As an addictions psychiatrist I found these portraits and the method used extremely touching and in a way, shocking.
