HELEN STOREY AND TONY RYAN
AIR PURIFYING DRESS 2011
Worn by model Erin O Conner
This dress incorporates a catalytic converter. Yes it does. Unbelievable.
You can see the film on www.catalytic-clothing.com
Inspiring and groundbreaking art and science collaboration between Prof Helen Storey of the University of the Arts and Prof Tony Ryan , a chemist.
The dress is impregnated with a photocatalyst that uses light to break down air-borne pollution into harmless chemicals. When the light shines on the photocatalyst , the electrons in the material are rearranged andf become more reactive. These electrons are then able to react with the water in the air and brealk it apart into two radicals which then react with the pollutants and break them down into non-harmful chemicals
