• ALCOHOL AND ART

TATE BRITAIN is showing 'Art and Alcohol' curated by David Blayney Brown.  Gin Lane, an image all of us addiction psychiatrists were introduced to in our early days of training contains just about all that can go wrong when drinking as a recreational pursuit goes wrong and someone becomes alcohol dependent.

The most striking image within the canvas for me is the drunken mother letting go of her  baby and laughing, oblivious to the permanent changes she has caused to her life.

I have been working with alcoholics for many years, the ones who killed a loved one when driving under the influence of alcohol are hard to forget, their pain is with them for life.
